Pancanga Calculator

Pancanga (version 3.13) is a traditional Vedic calendar calculator that computes the five limbs of the Hindu almanac — Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana — for any given date and geographic location. Please read the instructions carefully before using this program.

The Pancanga is the traditional Hindu almanac used to determine auspicious and inauspicious times for all activities — from daily worship to major life events. The five elements computed are: Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (luni-solar combination) and Karana (half-tithi). These form the foundation of Swara Yoga practice and Vedic time-keeping.

Understanding the Pancanga

The word Pancanga (Sanskrit: पञ्चांग) literally means "five limbs." These five elements — Tithi (lunar day), Vara (day of the week), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (luni-solar combination) and Karana (half-tithi) — together define the quality of any moment in time. In Swara Yoga, the Pancanga is essential for determining which nostril (Swara) should be active, and for aligning one's actions with the cosmic rhythms governing body, mind and spirit.

Version 3.13 of this calculator was developed by Professor Yano Michio at Kyoto Sangyo University, Japan, and implements the traditional Siddhantic astronomical methods. For help reading the output, see the Readme page.
